Train to Lake Tahoe
Whether for a weekend getaway or a weeklong vacation, Tahoe is a favorite of many Californians in addition to visitors from all over the world. Depending on season, Tahoe offer everything from a day of skiing to a sunny hike in the woods, to an evening of casino live entertainment.
Lake Tahoe is found straddling the border between California and Nevada. From Tahoe it’s 200 miles west to San Francisco and 30 miles north to Reno. People often refer to the North or South shore of Tahoe. Things of interest on the North shore, primarily ski resorts, are mostly in California, whereas most of the activity, including hotels and casinos, of the South shore are in Nevada.
Take the train to Lake Tahoe
The Amtrack (www.amtrak.com) California Zephyr runs through Truckee from the Bay Area.
Train To Lake Tahoe from Bay Area: Eastbound Tahoe trains leave Emeryville (with bus connections from various San Francisco locations) at 8:05 every morning. The train leaves Sacramento at 10:04 am and arrives in Truckee at 1:33 pm. and Reno at 3:06pm.

Train To Lake Tahoe from Reno: Westbound Tahoe trains leave Reno at 11:28 am. and Truckee at 12:29 pm and arrive in Sacramento at 5:25 pm and Emerville at 7:25 pm. (with bus connections to various San Francisco locations). Check with Amtrak for schedule changes.

Ground Transportation in Lake Tahoe
Blue Go
Blue Go is a coordinated system combining several previously existing transportation companies. Internet Kiosks are located in 30 locations around the South Shore for access to shuttle information, maps and schedules. In addition dedicated phones are located at 45 locations around the South Shore to get information and schedule On Demand rides. Call 530-541-7149
Nifty Fifty Trolly
These trollies loop through South Lake Tahoe every 60 minutes during the summer between 10 am and 10 pm. You can transfer to a North Short Trolly at Emerald Bay. Call 530 541-7548

TART
TART is the Tahoe Regional Transit. It offers bus transportation on the North Shore and to Truckee to connect with Amtrak and Greyhound. Buses have bike and ski racks and run from 6:30 am to 6:30 pm daily. 800 736-6365
South Tahoe Express
South Tahoe Express offers a luxury bus shuttle between South Shore casinos and the Reno-Tahoe International Airport. 866 898-2463
