Lake Tahoe Marriage Licenses
You will need to obtain a marriage license prior to your Lake Tahoe wedding in either California or Nevada.
You can get a California Public California Marriage License at any county seat. A Confidential License (elopement license) is also available where the information will not be released without the consent of one of the partners.
Nevada also requires a marriage license before you wed. The requirements are generally a bit less restrictive.

California Marriage License
You may obtain a Public California Marriage License at any county seat. The cost and hours of each office is different for each county. The license is good for 90 days.
- No blood test required
- No waiting period
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must present valid Official Photo Identification (drivers license, State ID, military ID, passport or other official identification)
- No divorce papers necessary if divorce has been final for over 90 days
- If this is a second marriage and you have been divorced less than two years, you must bring proof of termination of your last marriage.
- If you have been divorced more than two years then you will need the exact date of the termination.
A California Confidential License must be purchased in the county where the marriage takes place. They can be issued by many chapels. These licenses are different from public licenses in that no information can be released without the written consent of one of the married partners.
In Placer County the cost is $47.00 and for an additional $12.00 you receive a certified copy. In Tahoe City you can obtain a license at:

Nevada Marriage License
A Nevada Marriage License can be obtained at the town of Incline Village. Call (775) 832-4166 for information.
The important things to know are:
- No blood test required
- No waiting period
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must present valid Official Photo Identification (drivers license, State ID, military ID, passport or other official identification)
- License is good for one year from date of purchase
- No divorce papers necessary
- License may be purchased in any county in Nevada and marriage may occur in any county in Nevada
